She is also a sorceress of considerable talent in the prime dimension, albeit a young, green, and headstrong one.
- Energy Manipulation: She can hurl bolts of magical energy for combat purposes. This is functionally Eldritch Blast.
- Summoning: She can summon demons and beasts from the Limbo dimension, as well as some magical artifacts such as her soulsword and demon armor.
- Exorcism, etc: Spooky magic is Illyana's wheelhouse, and expelling foreign entities, banishing demonic creatures, and cleansing the energies of haunted locations are all intuitive for her.
- Matter Manipulation: Illyana is capable of minor transfiguration, alchemy, enchantment, and other such magics in the prime dimension. She uses this, for example, to alter her clothes and enchant them to always remain clean.
- Spatial Manipulation: Perhaps due to her mutant talent of teleportation, Illyana is naturally skilled at the complex magical theory required to alter spaces and structures to violate the laws of physics. She has made her room at the mansion larger on the inside.
- Wards: She is capable of constructing elaborate ward spells with various effects. This covers a broad range of sub-magics, but is typically protective and good-aligned in nature, with the intention of deterring evil-aligned entities.
Illyana is theoretically capable of traveling through time as well as space, but has never done this intentionally.
HAIR blonde
EYES blue
HEIGHT 5'5"
Illyana is a svelte, pretty-faced blonde woman with a devil-may-care attitude. She carries herself with an imperious aloofness. She wears her hair long and usually down, and cuts it herself, oftentimes with blunt bangs. Smudgy days-old eyeliner, sparkly eyeshadows, dark nail polish, and black lipstick are in her cosmetics rotation.Illyana wears almost exclusively black and has a sort of goth-punk fashion sensibility. She alters her clothing magically rather than buying new wardrobe pieces, and changes her outfit very infrequently, although it never becomes dirty or worn. Current outfit details here.
Her soulsword changes adaptively with her mental landscape. It began as a delicate silver rapier, but has come to resemble a knight's hand-and-a-half sword forged of burnished metal. The blade looks molten, or flaming, and can range in shade from deep orange to bright white-blue. The demon armor it manifests around her is a complementary burnished black metal.
Her stepping discs tend to cast the hellish red glow of the Limbo dimension, and can't be looked through. If you keep your eyes open as you go through them, you can sometimes catch glimpses of the Limbo dimension around you. Going through her portals feels a little like someone is pushing or pulling you, but is otherwise instantaneous. The psychically sensitive may catch the demonic aura of Limbo as they pass through.
Illyana speaks with a broad Russian accent.
REFS: Soulsword, Demon Armor, Wardrobe
She also readily seeks novel experiences and enjoys expanding her horizons. Going new places, trying new things, and especially having prototypical "normal" experiences of which she was deprived in her hellish upbringing are particular pleasures of hers. Her flighty, aloof demeanor and determination to have fun may read as childish, but she is actually quite worldly.
Illyana is even-tempered and not prone to losing control of her own emotions. At emotional rest, she is most often angry or fearful, but shows little of this outwardly. Her outward confidence is very fake-it-til-you-make-it, but for the most part she is secure in her own abilities. Still, she is in many ways emotionally stunted by her upbringing and the severe neglect she faced in Limbo, and is governed more by her emotions than she would care to admit.
Her teammates amongst the Acolytes know that while Illyana is not unscrupulous, she is also not reliable. Plans made with her must be considered tentative, and money and possessions should not be loaned to her unless you're comfortable not getting them back. That being said, she is a loyal ally who will go out of her way to help someone if they're truly in need; she just doesn't ever have her wallet when it's time to pay the dinner bill.
Despite her preference to have few close interpersonal relationships, she's quite extroverted, and enjoys meeting people and learning about them. She has a friendly, teasing communication style, although she can also be tone-deaf and blunt at times. She says what's on her mind, for better or worse, and is not prone to actively lying (although she does oftentimes overestimate her own abilities).
Mikhail Rasputin, brother, cosmonaut. Presumed deceased.
Piotr Rasputin, elder(ish) brother, mutant. Recently reunited.
Grigori Rasputin, paternal ancestor. Presumed deceased.
When Piotr was about thirteen, he began manifesting his mutant abilities. The Rasputins were seen as occult figures amongst their neighbors, being descendant of the Romanoffs' mystic advisor (and, unbeknownst to them, a family comprised largely of powerful mutants). Piotr's enhanced strength and durability made him an asset to the farming community, and combined with his gentle nature, it was a secret kept by everyone in the village in equal measure.
From the time she was very young, her eldest brother Mikhail was away from home to live in Moscow and train as a cosmonaut, and she never knew him very well. When she was eight years old, Mikhail was assigned to a manned spaceflight mission. His craft catastrophically failed in orbit, and the entire crew was lost.
The next year, Illyana disappeared from her bedroom overnight. Everyone in town searched for her for weeks, but never found so much as a hair of her. The people of Ust-Ordynski would not know what had become of her until she eventually returned in 2019, merely ten years older than she had been when she vanished.
After Illyana disappeared from Ust-Ordynski, rumors of strange and evil occurrences in the town began to circulate. To Illyana's understanding, her brother Piotr was discovered as a mutant during the years following her disappearance and taken into the custody of the KGB. Since she has returned from Limbo, she has been unable to locate him.
In her absence, Ust-Ordynski became notorious for experiencing strange occurrences such as possessions and hauntings. Illyana now considers the town to be under her protection. She has achieved cryptid/patron saint status in the village, remembered only by its eldest residents but known to all of them. She's placed wards on the town which alert her if any mutants or magic users enter its borders.
